Abraham Lincoln's Role in the Civil War
Summary
Abraham Lincoln was the president during the Civil War. He fought for the equal rights for slaves and felt that they shouldn't be treated as servants. During the war he gave the Gettysburg Address and the Emancipation Proclamation, two very important actions for the time period. He was the leader for freedom and rights for slaves during the Civil War. Lincoln pushed for the passage of the 13, 14, and 15 Amendments which freed the slaves and defined their citizenship.
